New Deacons

We are so excited to welcome our newest deacons that will begin serving their three year term October 1, 2010. Three were ordained: Karen Alexander, Reid Chitty and Jacob Waller. We also welcome Keith Little on and welcome back Phil Kaylor and Faye Willingham. What a wonderful and spiritual group of servants. Please pray for them as they seek to assist in ministry to and through our congregation.

Deacon Nominations

are going on right now. Please nominate any who you feel would be able to serve as spiritual leaders of our church, if they have been members two years or longer. Please pray for the Deacons and our church as God selects the next six men and women who will represent the laity with the ministers of our loving church.

Deacon Recommendations for Feb. 17, 2010 mini-conferance

which is to be held this Wednesday from 6:00 pm - 6:15ish pm in the Family Life Center.
Motion: The Deacons recommend that the church normally sell all future gifts of stock or other non-cash items as soon as possible after their receipt unless there are extenuating circumstances. Proceeds from the sale will go into either the operating fund or into the account for which the gift was made. Motion Passed

Motion: The Deacons recommend that the church sell the 112 shares of Proctor and Gamble stock. Motion Passed

Motion: The Deacons recommend that the church establish a single restricted fund called “Disaster Relief” to receive funds to assist relief efforts as disasters or emergencies happen. The Missions Committee will direct the use of these funds. Motion Passed

Minutes of Last Church Conference...

Monthly Conference, First Baptist Church, New Bern, NC, Wed. Sept. 16, 2009

The moderator, Chuck White, opened the Conference with prayer. There were approximately 70 members present. The minutes of the August Conference were read and approved.

The motion, concerning revisions to the Church constitution, presented in the August church conference and postponed to the September conference was brought to the floor. A motion to amend the original motion to vote on the individual changes rather than vote on the revisions as a corpus was approved by the Church.
1. The Cihildren and Preschool Committees to be combined with a total of 6 members. It was approved.
2. The Baptism Committee to be enlarged from 4 members to 6 members, maintaining an equal number of men and women. It was approved.
3. The Lord's Supper Committee to be enlarged from 6 members to 8 members. It was approved.
4. Delete the Library/Media Committee and replace it with a Media Director position. It was approved.
5. Remove the Music Committee. It was approved.
6. Remove the Christian Education Committee. It was approved.
7. Remove the Recreation/Family Life Committee. It was approved.
8. Remove the Missions Committee (making it a Deacon appointed committee). It was NOT approved.
9. Establish the Heritage and Hope Endowment Fund Committee consisting of 1 Trustee (to serve as Chairperson), 1 Treasurer, the Finance Committee Chairperson, and 3 at-large members to be selected by the nominating committee. The at-large members shall serve staggered terms of 2, 4 and 6 years. It was approved.

Other recommendations presented:
Change the Usher Committee to the Usher Ministry Team. This was postponed for consideration at the October Business meeting.
Create a "300 Committee" to work in conjunction witht he Archives Committee to handle special projects connecting our Church with the City's 300th celebration. This will be a temporary ad hoc committee headed by Beth Wagner. It was approved.
On Sunday, October 11, 2009, have one service, non-traditional, at 8:45 am followed by our regular activities: Cafe Connection at 9:30 and Sunday School at 9:45 due to Mumfest. It was approved.
The Church Committees, Church officers, Sunday School Officers and Teachers were presented. All were voted on and approved with the exception of the Deacon Chair (that position must wait until October and the new Church year).
Todd Price presented a draft of the Pastor-Church Covenant and Position Descriptions.

The moderator adjourned the conference with prayer.
